Day Hike To Shira Plateau Tour

On the morning of your Kilimanjaro day trip, we’ll pick you up from your hotel and drive to West Kilimanjaro, passing through a forest reserve where you might spot Colobus Monkeys in the trees. Your hike begins on the stunning Shira Plateau at an elevation of 3,500 meters above sea level.

Step out of the car, lace up your shoes, and immerse yourself in the sights, sounds, and smells of Tanzania’s breathtaking wilderness. Guided by a Kilimanjaro & Safari Treks expert, you’ll explore various trails offering views of Kibo, Kilimanjaro’s highest peak, and its northern glaciers, weather permitting. You’ll also take in the expansive plains of nearby Amboseli National Park in Kenya and the dramatic Simba River Gorge, all set against the backdrop of the world’s highest free-standing mountain.

Reaching the northern rim of Shira Crater, make stops at various observation points to admire the volcanic cones scattered across the landscape below. Enjoy a leisurely hike at your own pace, with a picnic lunch under the open sky along the way.

This is a moderate hike that doesn’t require athletic fitness, though the thinner air at 3,500 meters means you should pace yourself and savor the untouched beauty surrounding you. After a 4-hour hike—or sooner if you feel fatigued—we’ll take you back to your hotel.
